ENERGIZER NIGHT RUN 2014 - AFTER RACE

A “River of Lights” with 15,000 running for the cause to brighten the lives of Orang Asli 

 
The Energizer Night Race 2014 concluded in spectacular fashion as 15,000 runners took to the streets of Kuala Lumpur successfully making the Energizer Night Race 2014; Malaysia’s Largest Night Race. The Energizer Night Race was flagged off at the iconic Dataran Merdeka by Datuk Haji Ahmad Phesal bin Haji Talib, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur; and Mike Foong, the Managing Director for Energizer Malaysia & Singapore, with fireworks and music accompanying runners as they took on the route ahead. 


Along the route, the runners were spurred on by drummers’ lit by LED lights, laser shows and many more. There was also the breathtaking vista of Kuala Lumpur at night which was the background as the runners took on the route turning the streets of Kuala Lumpur into a “River of Lights”.

Dataran Merdeka was transformed into a carnival area featuring exhibits from Energizer, sponsors and their CSR collaboration partner, EPIC Homes. The carnival area also hosted the “Light UpThe Dark” initiative which will see Energizer building homes for the Orang Asli of Peninsular Malaysia and successfully raised about RM200, 000 toward the cause. The initiative gained further momentum with runners, supporters and visitors making contributions in cash and in kind at the Energizer Night Race site.


“We are proud to be Malaysia’s largest night race and the numbers really demonstrate the spirit of Positivenergy, we would like to thank all runners for the amazing support shown. As shown by their participation in the Energizer Night Race, we hope runners will continue to empower themselves to make positive changes to the society,” said Mike Foong, Managing Director of Energizer Malaysia and Singapore. 

John-son Oei, CEO of EPIC Homes said “The participants at the Energizer Night Race have truly been inspiring and EPIC Homes is really excited to be part of Malaysia’s largest night race.” He further added “The ‘Light Up the Dark’ initiative will definitely go a long way in making lives of the Orang Asli tribes a much more secured one.” 

The funds would be further raised from Energizer sale proceeds at all AEON & AEON BIG retail stores, GIANT stores, TESCO Stores and MYDIN stores from 1st August until 30th September 2014. For every pack of the Energizer Batteries, Lightings & Specialty products sold, RM 0.20 from the sales will go towards the initiative.

 The Energizer Night Race 2014 is Malaysia’s largest night race and was made possible by 15,000 runners participating. The Energizer Night Race 2014 is sponsored by Shick, Banana Boat, Brooks, Evian, GNC, 100Plus, Jake’s Charboil Steaks, Milo, Muay Fit, Nestle Fitnesse, Nikon, Power Bar, HooHa! And Soleus Running Watches. The race was organized by Twenty First Century Sports, collaborated with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and was sanctioned by the Federal Terroritory of Kuala Lumpur Amateur Athletes.   
 
The signature global race series first had its beginnings in South Africa in 2007. To date, it has been held in Peru, Philippines, Mexico, and Spain with more than 220,000 runners lacing up their running shoes to help make a positive impact through the Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World.

Road Closure Schedule for Energizer Night Race 2014

Plan your journey ahead to support the largest night race in Malaysia




21 roads in Kuala Lumpur will be closed in phases from 7:30pm until 11:00pm on Saturday, 9 August 2014 for the Energizer Night Race 2014. Jalan Raja (From Jalan Leboh Pasar Besar to Jalan Tun Perak), which is the main road used in preparations for the Energizer Night Race will be closed starting from 8 August, 8.00pm until 10 August, 6.00am.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police and the organisers of the Energizer Night Race 2014 highly recommend that the public use alternative routes or public transportation during these hours to access the city centre.

Affected roads will include:




Alternative routes to city centre
Vehicles travelling from Kajang may access to the city centre by using Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Tun Razak, and Jalan Sultan Ismail. Vehicles from Seremban Highway may opt to travel through Jalan Tun Razak, Sungai Besi roundabout and Jalan Sultan Ismail. Vehicles from Setapak may access the city centre via Jalan Tun Razak. Vehicles from Kepong could take Jalan Sultan Ismail as alternative route.

A total of 150 traffic policemen and 50 enforcement officers will be deployed to control traffic; 200 route marshals, 10 mobile marshals, and 10 ambulances will be stationed along the race route to assist and ensure participant safety on race day. Public transportation – available options
Dataran Merdeka is also accessible by Light Rail Transit (LRT). The nearest LRT station is STAR line and PUTRA line’s Masjid Jamek station, approximately 8 minutes walking distance from Dataran Merdeka.
