ADIDAS SUPERNOVA GLIDE (W) - REVIEW

Just one week prior to the GE30K, I picked a pair of Adidas Supernova Glide W from Adidas Malaysia. I was way far behind in training and definitely not fit enough to run that 30km. Determined to hit the road despite lacking in training, I really need a pair of shoes with not only good, but excelllent cushioning. The very next day, I slipped into this new pair of shoes and hit the track at Kg Pandan Sports Complex and ran 4km. Then ran another 5km a day later and am ready for the BIG DAY! My first attempt for 30k which will determine if I should or able to take on the 42km in the coming KL Marathon.

My target was to finish the race comfortably within 4 hours without putting any stress on my knee. My first 10km was within target but the many hill slopes from then on really put me to the test. It was after the 15km mark that my self-esteem began to run low as the road ahead became tougher. It was then that I began to appreciate and truly thankful for choosing the Adidas Supernova Glide instead of the racer.

What I like about the shoe?

The wide fore-front of the shoe allow plenty of space for the toes to 'move' - ample of 'breathing space'. The softness of the material gave that 'naked' feeling as I slipped into the shoe. I particularly like the cushioning which gave a sense of bounciness with each step thus reduce the impact on my knee.

After the 22km mark, I began to feel a slight pain on my left knee and finished the race at walking pace and ran 100m in between to catch up with time. Am glad that the cushioning of the shoes helped to elevate almost half the weight of my body and reduce the impact on my knee.

This shoe will make an excellent companion in my coming KL-Maran 204km Walk in April 4 - 7, 2009 and be truly put to test!

So, is there anything that I don't like about it?

Yes. The WEIGHT.
If only the shoe can be lighter by 50% (sorry, I don't really know what's the weight but compared to my Saucony Fastwitch 2, this Supernova Glide is definitely heavy), it will be perfect for a 'heavyweight' and not so fast runner like me.

The last race with this pair was the City Day Run 2009. In total, I completed close to 70km within 5 weeks. Unless I can find a better cushioning pair, this will be the shoes for any race above 20km.

ADIDAS SUPERNOVA GLIDE - W

After waiting for more than a year, finally I got the opportunity to participate in the Adidas Running Shoe Seeing Program Q1 2009. I went to their office with Wong Kei Ming. Met by Mr Krishnan who took out several models of different sizes for us to try on.

I was actually looking for a pair of running shoe with good cushioning yet light enough to take me through a distance of not less than 20km without giving too much impact on my knee and ankle. Mr. Krishnan took us on a short 'tour' about choosing the right running shoes. I was not a 'technical' person but the various gadget and material sampling shown gave me a better understanding about running shoes and why it cost so much.

After trying a few models and with the help of Mr. Krishnan, I settled for the Adidas Supernova Glide which is an update version of Supernova Cushion. And Yellow is the color for 2009!

You run like a girl: fast and hard. That's why the adidas Supernova Glide running shoe features a GeoFit™ construction specifically designed to meet the demands of a woman's foot as it tears across town at record speeds.

ForMotion™ actively supports your muscles for improved comfort and efficiency

NoSeam engineered-mesh upper ensures a comfortable, irritation-free fit; Women's-specific upper with more space and no overlays in the bunion area to ensure maximum comfort

adiPRENE®+ in the forefoot maintains propulsion and efficiency;

GeoFit™ construction for anatomical fit and comfort

TORSION® SYSTEM for midfoot integrity
Dual-layer, anti-microbial, adiLite-respoEVA sockliner for step-in comfort

adiWEAR® outsole offers the ultimate in high-wear durability

I will be wearing this in the GE30K this Sunday and will write about it in my next posting. So, do come back to check out how the Supernova Glide 'perform' at the race!

BETWEEN THE OLD MR. RIGHT AND NEW MR. RIGHT

North Star - RM30.00
Bought more than 18 months ago while holidaying in Cameron Highlands. It was a last minutes decision. While having tea at one of the shops, a local friend casually mentioned that it would be a waste if just hang around at the mamak shop in Tanah Rata. He suggested climbing up Gunung Berembun.

As we were in slippers and its quite far to walk back to our camp site, we just walked into one of the departmental store and grab this Mr North Star. Since then Mr NS has been running with me in many road races. Mr NS had been to many 10KM races, 204km KL-Maran Walk (twice) and 21KM in the recent Kuala Lumpur International Marathon 2008. The most recent Bomba Run and Asthma Run, too.

So, thats my Mr NS latest look. Still quite good looking, right?

And the soon to be ............

SAUCONY FW2 - RM130

My would-be 'Mr Right'. Better be because its gonna cost me 4x more than North Star. Here I come FW2, soon you'll be mine!

However, I have no intention to abandon my North Star yet cause it has been dutifully with me in many races and there will be many more to come.
