STANDARD CHARTERED KL MARATHON 2013

Thats my favorite road race in town - The Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM) is back for the 5th consecutive years to be held on 30 June 2013. Yes, and I termed this as my 3-in-1 road race: Makan-thon, Shoppa-thon & Marathon.

Online Registration will officially open at 6.00pm on 30 January 2013. Get ready, Get Set and Click at

What I like most about this event is the organiser has make every effort to increase the participation of Full marathoners from less than 2,000 participants in 2009 to 3,168 marathoners in 2012. That is an increased of more than 60% in 4 years!

Other prominent features of this iconic marathon is running through the challenging route, the beautiful and historical landmarks around the city of Kuala Lumpur. This is where I always take the opportunity to 'shop & eat' as I reached Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Ipoh which is between km20 to km33.

Thereafter is the ever famous km36 'Kedai Runcit' (Grocery shop) operated by the FMVs (Full Marathon Virgins) running group and the LYN Runners headed by Choi Chik Choy joined them in 2012. Credit must also be given to the organiser for the well-managed water stations and sponging stations at every 2km to 3km along the entire stretch of the running route.

Following the overwhelming response received in 2012, the organiser is looking forward to increase the 2013 participation to 30,000 runners from around the world. Last year, registration closed 6 weeks ahead of the deadline. So, get ready to secure a slot early to avoid disappointment as SCKLM is definitely THE race that all of us are proud to be associated with.

The Standard Chartered KL Marathon is once again made possible by title sponsors Standard Chartered Bank in partnership with the event owner and organiser Dirigo Events, and co-organiser Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
